Taking a statewide stage

Published on the Catalyst Online

When I started to tackle writing about the State Thespian Festival I knew nothing about the event. I gathered information through interviewing and looking at the International Thespian Society's website. Through my research I found that a student from my school's troupe won and International Thespian Excellence Award and was asked to perform on the main stage during the festival. Only seven people in attendance were given the same opportunity so I made sure to highlight this crucial piece of information in the story. This story has gained a lot of attention from students and parents — the fourth most viewed story on the Catalyst Online. To see the process I went through when working on this story, return to "Reporting & Writing."

A New place for advanced placement

Published on the catalyst Online

This was the first news story that I ever wrote. I worked on this story in April of 2020 which made gathering information incredibly difficult. Instead of talking to sources in person, I had to do all of my interviewing through email. To find the information that I included about the Advanced Placement exams I reached out to the Advanced Placement coordinator for my school and visited the College Board's website. Since this was one of my very first stories there are a few faults, but I learned how to overcome communication barriers.

news briefs

As the News Director for the Catalyst Newspaper, I write news briefs for each issue of the print paper that we publish which contain local, national and international current events. These are important for our students to see when they read the paper because it updates them on what is happening in the world and in their own community, and it helps to date our paper. Below are a few examples of the news briefs that I have written. Click the images to enlarge.
