During quarantine I found a story closer to home than I originally expected. A student who lived less than a block away from me was creating colorful birdhouses with her family during the pandemic and hanging them up in the park for people walking by to enjoy. In order to remain COVID safe I did all of my interviewing through phone conversations and had the student's family member take a photo of her hanging one up. This story was one that really opened my eyes to the fact that everyone around me has a story to tell and it is just a matter of paying close enough attention to find out what it is.

My first ever yearbook spread was over the 25th anniversary of Millard West and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony that went along with it. I spent several weeks perfecting this story as it required me to reach out to many different alumni and former staff members, which made getting interviews tricky since I could not do them in person. I also utilized the building's mission statement in the story to emphasize the role that Millard West filled in it's first 25 years. This is the first published story that I wrote as a journalist. As you will see there are several errors, which taught me the importance of editing, but it is the story that made me want to continue on with journalism.

This one of the most recent stories that I have done. A teacher notified me that one of her students was an actor and had a unique story to tell. It took me several months to get a hold of the family members since the student was working on a tv show and was not at school. I really emphasized in this story how he focused on adding more representation to the entertainment world for people with disabilities.
